The Outlander Experience

Step into the world of Outlander and discover the castles, villages, landscapes and stories that have brought Scotland to life on screen. Journey through some of the country's most captivating locations while uncovering the history, legends and stories behind them.

Itinerary (approx 9hr):

  • Pick from Hotel or preferred location

  • Falkland - filming occurred in the village, when it stands for 1940’s Inverness. The Tyndall Bruce Fountain in the middle of the high street features in a scene when the ghost of Jamie stares up at Claire brushing her hair.

  • Balvaird Castle - Castle Leather, the ancestral home of Lord Simon Fraser

  • Doune Castle -Castle Leoch, seat of the MacKenzie clan and home to Jamie Fraser’s mother.

  • Culross - village of Cranesmuir in the parish of Castle Leoch in the Highlands. Visit Tanhouse Brae (the walkway down to Cranesmuir‍, one of the first scenes we see of Culross is the row of houses leading down to Geillis Duncans’ House), The Study (Geillis Duncan’s House), Mercat Cross (the Pillory), Wee Causeway (the path to Mrs Baxter’s house) and Culross Palace - have an hour walking through the village and taking in the sights and a lunch stop.

  • Blackness Castle - the castle is best known as Fort St. Julien. The courtyard, ramparts, and gate passage feature prominently in several episodes, and many visitors now arrive specifically to identify these locations.
